Sophie Parkes – Profile

My name is Sophie Parkes and I run the clinic Tiverton House Osteopaths and Associates in Newbury, Berkshire. I have been an Osteopath for 15 years qualifying from the British School of Osteopathy in London, where I later taught in the clinic there for 5 years.

Osteopathy is a passion of mine that I love, helping others maximise their potential and improve their well being . As Osteopaths we don’t profess to heal people but we have been able to help people relieve their pain and improve / restore function. I have a particular interest in treating Expectant Mothers, Mothers, Families, Babies and Children. It is a hard time for families, when it is either all so new or there is a new addition to an already made family.

Whether we are treating Birth stresses in either Mum or baby or the mechanical demands on the body, Osteopathy has eased this path. There are lots of tools in our tool box as I explain to patients, I do use manipulation, soft tissue and articulation techniques as well as fascial/ functional and Cranio sacral techniques. I have often said that we treat from the cradle to the grave with Osteopathy, and whether it is for acute injuries or for maintenance sessions, patients have found we help them get better musculoskeletally by improving function and decreasing pain levels.

With relation to running the clinic I have always wanted to set up a centre of excellence with relation to patient care, under one roof, where patients feel that they are cared for and everyone who can help them solve problems, are there to help in a caring sensitive environment. So we have some fabulous Practitioners that don’t just ‘do ‘ their professions but are experienced in these and have the same passion for patient care that I have.
I always stress to patients that we work a long side the medical profession as complementary practitioners, and are not an alternative. It is great that the local Doctors work with us together to get the best possible outcome for our patients or the treatment that they need.
